FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN ANTONIO, TX, September 21, 2016 -

What is it that gets San Antonians moving, well, apparently reading. This Sunday, September 25th, 400 participants will attend the Battle for the Books 5k Fun Run and Walk at Woodlawn Lake Park. This sold out inaugural event is being held to celebrate none other than National Literacy Month this September.

This event will not only have a family friendly 5k to complete but will also feature local latin singer, Edith Rivera, to perform the national anthem, and a performance by San Antonio Slam Poet, Amanda Flores. Food trucks, massages, and music will also add to make this a special celebration, but the real gem is the book-shaped running medal that all participants will receive as they cross the finish line.

The Battle for the Books is being held to raise funds for Ye Olde Tutor, an up and coming online tutoring website. The site, currently in development, is founded by Native San Antonion and former NISD English teacher, Yvonne Gonzalez. The program is set to move into Beta testing later this fall and fully launch in 2017.

Participants of this event will walk away with a commemorative bib, shirt, and book-shaped medal. All of these celebrations are intended to raise awareness of the importance of literacy and its importance in the community. To learn more about Ye Olde Tutor, visit their website at YeOldeTutor.com. Ye Olde Tutor also has a Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/yeoldetutor, and on Instagram @yeoldetutor.
